A message from Japanese unions opposed to nuclear power. Attached is their latest Quake Report newsletter. The British media may have lost interest in this issue but MTUC has not.
Dear Friends,
Japanese government is urging the restart of the operation of units 2 and 3 of the Genkai Nuclear Plant located in about 80 Km from the Ground Zero of Nagasaki in Kyushu, which have been shut for maintenance, in the midst of the world worst disaster ever in the history. On top of it, unit 1 of the Genkai Nuclear Plant is one of the most dangerous reactors in the world. Because of decades of exposure to neutron radiation, the ductile-brittle transition temperature of the reactor vessel has become extremely high—98 degrees centigrade (208 F) as of April 2009. Emergency cooling may cause fracture and explosion of the pressurized water reactor vessel (about 150 atm).
University students begin to express their burning anger against shameless propellers of nuclear policy bribed by government and capital. Revolts erupt from within campuses across the country.
Don’t restart nuclear plants now shut for routine maintenance!
Abolish all nuclear plants by the power of international solidarity!
The united power of working class and people alone can create future!
