Dear Friends,
This is the first ever financial appeal the Blacklist Support Group has made to our supporters.
Steve Acheson is a blacklisted electrician who has been unemployed for the past 18 months since his dismissal on the Fiddlers Ferry Power Station project. When he received his blacklist file from the Information Commissioners Office there are pages of entries relating to his time working on the site leading up to his dismissal. Steve has been protesting outside the main gates of the Power Station ever since. At one point Scottish and Southern Energy (the owners of the plant) took out a High Court Injunction against Steve quoting Terrorism legislation claiming that he might invade the site and pose a threat to the National Grid!! The case got laughed out of court by the Judge who said the entire case was "fanciful bordering on paranoia". Steve is currently taking an Employment Tribunal claim for unfair dismissal.
Steve is also one of the leading figures in the campaign against the blacklist over many years and his family have suffered more than most over the past decade for his commitment to workers rights and safety for construction workers.
This is an Appeal to support Steve Acheson and other blacklisted workers from the Fiddlers Ferry project and their families. If you are a member of a trade union branch or a community group or just an individual supporter, please could you support the campaign by donating a few pounds (the more the merrier).
Cheques made payable to:
Fiddlers Ferry Hardship Fund c/o 13 Thompson Close, Dane Bank, Denton, Manchester M34 2PQ
Many Thanks
Blacklist Support Group
