Christine Vié, Vice-Chair of Manchester Metropolitan University UCU Branch, and an NEC member, is being made compulsorily redundant after twenty years' service as a lecturer.
This is the the first case of a compulsory redundancy in ten years, and hers is the only case among nine colleagues in a department that is being closed, while the management claim that retraining is 'not reasonable'. The UCU branch and the regional officer believe this is a clear case of victimisation for trade union activities.

MMU UCU Branch is lodging an official dispute and is calling for an industrial action ballot.
Christine spoke at Manchester TUC on Wednesday 20 June. MTUC resolved to send its banner to the lobby the MMU Board of Governors, at 9.00am on Friday 29th July, at the Ormond Building (by All Saints Park, off Oxford Road, Manchester).
Ironically, MMU has recently been crowing about its 'Investors in People' 'Gold' award, and has sent Christine an invitation. See: http://www.ucu.org.uk/index.cfm?articleid=6140
